Aquifer Test Methods

Pumping Tests

Pumping test methods of estimating aquifer properties include single- and multi-well designs. Derivative analysis is a popular tool for diagnosing aquifer conditions and matching type curves. Recovery tests are frequently conducted after pumping is stopped to estimate aquifer properties. Step-drawdown tests are used to determine well performance.

Slug Tests

Slug tests are generally conducted as single-well tests.

Radius of Influence

Compute the radius of influence for a pumping well in a confined aquifer.

Specific Capacity to Transmissivity Conversion

Estimate the transmissivity of an aquifer from the specific capacity of a well using exact or approximate formulas.

Groundwater Mounding

Compute the maximum height of the water table beneath a circular or rectangular recharge area.

Tidal Effects

Estimate aquifer properties from groundwater response to tidal fluctuations in a confined aquifer.
