AQTESOLV is the leading slug test analysis software package that provides a robust suite of solution methods for the analysis of slug tests in confined and unconfined aquifers. The software includes the advanced KGS Model (including well skin) which allows you to analyze slug test data from the test well and multiple observation wells.

Straight-Line Methods

Straight-line methods such as the Bouwer-Rice (1976), Hvorslev (1951) and Dagan (1978)new2.gif (111 bytes) solutions are simple to perform, but often require discretion on the part of the analyst to interpret the slug test data. The AQTESOLV software facilitates the application of these solution methods through easy-to-use visual and automatic curve matching tools. To assist in the interpretation of the slug test data, the software displays recommended head ranges (Butler 1998) that help to ensure meaningful results. The slug test software also includes corrections for gravel pack porosity and hydraulic conductivity anisotropy.

The Peres et al. (1989) solutionnew2.gif (111 bytes) is a new method in AQTESOLV for analyzing slug tests with wellbore skin. This method is based on an exact equation for transforming slug test data into equivalent head data for a constant-rate pumping test with wellbore storage and skin effect. Through the use of an approximate deconvolution technique, the method eliminates wellbore storage from the transformed equivalent head data, thereby making it possible to analyze the equivalent heads using the Cooper-Jacob solution for a constant-rate pumping test.

Type Curve Methods

Slug test analysis with type-curve methods such as the Cooper et al. (1967), Hyder et al. (1994), Butler (1998), Springer-Gelhar (1991) and Butler-Zhan (2004)new2.gif (111 bytes) solutions are more involved than straight-line methods, but have fewer limiting assumptions.

The slug test solutions by Butler (1998), Springer-Gelhar (1991) and Butler-Zhan (2004)new2.gif (111 bytes) let you match curves to tests with oscillatory response (underdamped case due to inertial effects in high-K aquifers) with corrections for frictional well loss (Butler 2002).

AQTESOLV provides a suite of tools for visual and automatic curve matching, type curve families, parameter tweaking and sensitivity analysis.

Multi-Well Tests

Slug tests are generally performed as single-well tests. In some cases, however, valuable information may be obtained from multi-well (interference) slug tests consisting of the test well and one or more observation wells. The AQTESOLV software allows you to analyze these tests using the KGS Model (Hyder et al. 1994) for slug tests with and without well skin.

Other methods in AQTESOLV that you may use for the analysis of multiwell slug tests include Dougherty-Babu (1984), Butler-Zhan (2004) and Barker-Black (1983).new2.gif (111 bytes)
